The Appalachian National Scenic Trail is a 2,174-mile footpath along the ridgecrests and across the major valleys of the Appalachian Mountains from Katahdin in Maine to Springer Mountain in northern Georgia. The trail traverses Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, West Virginia, Virginia, Tennessee, North Carolina and Georgia. |

The Lamprey River is remarkable for its relatively unspoiled beauty and the abundance of wildlife that flourish in the midst of the fast growing greater Portsmouth region of Southeastern New Hampshire. In an era of highly managed river resources, the Lamprey stands out for its relatively; natural flood and drought regimes, to which the River's fish and wildlife inhabitants have adapted. Broad, forested floodplains provide excellent habitat for a variety of wildlife and plant species. Agricultural fields, steep forested slopes, tributary streams, and wetlands enhance habitat diversity, creating a rich breeding ground for waterfowl, songbirds, shorebirds, turtles and other wildlife. While public access is limited, the river lends itself to a range of recreational activities, including fishing, kayaking, canoeing and skating. |
